Writing Metrics for December 14, 2010

I didn't write anything yesterday, and I barely read anything, but I have a good excuse. In fact, I have three good excuses.

First, I had a massage, something I do four to six times a year. They help keep the headaches at bay. It's not that I had a good time -- I get deep tissue massages, and man, they hurt -- I have a spot at the base of my skull that is actually tender to the touch today. But the tendons are a bit loser and there are whole muscle groups that have unknotted. I have a great masseuse. This adventure took from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m., including travel time.

Second, we left for Berkeley at 4:00 p.m., thinking we had more than enough time to get there, park, spend an hour in Half Price Books at Shattuck and Addison, and then meander on to dinner and the theater. Two and a half hours later, we reached the end of a water-logged and traffic-filled 37 miles, 15 minutes late for our reservation. No book shopping for us. But the theater was worth it: Berkeley Rep has mounted Mary Zimmerman's production of "The Arabian Nights." I loved every minute, mostly because it's just so damned creative. Someday I want to do/write/compose something that can move people the way that show moved me. If you live in the California Bay Area, or even the northern end of the Central Valley, get there while it's still around -- it's excellent. I think it's only up for a few more weeks, but there were definitely empty seats in the theater last night.

Third, I spent the rest of my time working on a brand new blogging project, about which more very shortly.

So: no new words, but important happenings. Life is good.
