Writing Metrics for October 2, 2010

It was a good day. I wrote 885 words -- not quite the 1000 I'd hoped for, but not far off. I went for a 3-1/2 mile walk with my husband after getting most of the words down, and talked to him a bit about what I'd written, and he was full of suggestions of how I should have written it -- hmm, time to stop talking before I have a first draft completely finished.

We went to see "The Social Network" last night, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Fred was very upset afterwards, talking about the lack of privacy caused by various computer programs. The recent suicide of a college freshman because his sexual encounter was filmed and uploaded to YouTube was very much on his mind. It sure is a different world from the one I grew up in -- bullying in my day meant that I was mocked for reading so much, and called names, but it was nothing like what can be done to a kid today.

I'm reading Masked, an anthology of superhero stories edited by Lou Anders. It's pretty good -- one real clunker of a story so far, but mostly good stuff. I read about 55 pages total -- too much else going on to get much reading done. All in all, though, it was a really good day.
