Writing Metrics for May 1, 2011

I wrote 383 words yesterday -- not a lot, but better than zero. I also continued reading Stephen Graham Jones's The Ones That Got Left Behind until I realized that I was so depressed I was very nearly in tears -- not a reaction to any particular story, but just sad from the evil of humanity on view in all of them. It's a good book to be able to provoke such a response, but it's clear that I can't read more than a few stories at a time without giving my sunny nature a chance to reassert itself.

Actually, the news about the death of Osama bin Laden went a long way to taking care of the revival for me. I'm a liberal, no doubt, but I'm not so liberal that I think the early death of such a one as bin Laden (or Hitler, or Stalin) diminishes humanity in any way, shape or form. And yes, if I'd been in D.C. last night, I would have been with that celebratory group at the White House, chanting and singing. This is very good news indeed.

The news had me sufficiently glued to the television that I didn't get Sunday Links written. I may try for Monday Links, but I'm not quite certain about that -- the pile of legal work is high and growing. I'm trying to introduce more balance into my life, but this doesn't seem like a week that will be conducive to those efforts.

Balance

Part of "balance" is not stressing yourself by doing too much. Right now the legal work gets the spotlight; but the globe will turn and other things will get their chance.
